I think it's part of the maturing in the spirit process. We grow with each experience as we collect bits of wisdom on the way. We pass through thresholds of understanding. I find my prayer life has really transformed in my old age. I pray for deliverance from evil, protection from tragedy, grant us grace (though we don't deserve it) and lately I've added, open our eyes to accept Your will be done. How long does it take for our toddler spirits to grow up and realize His will is always best for us?
