I'm so sorry, Linda. I hope you're feeling better now. I had not had Covid, either, until January when I went to the ER for cellulitis and tested positive for Covid two days later at the doctor's office. Since I was only two days in and had other risk factors, he started me on antivirals. I don't know if it was that or I just had a mild case, but my Covid was basically felt like a cold. My husband caught it as well and had a much worse case than I did. I tried to talk him into asking about antivirals, but he didn't want to.

I didn't lose my sense of smell, but my tastes were off. Things that I normally like were revolting to me. But that may have been due to the three antibiotics I was taking for the cellulitis. They really did a number on my digestive system that took a long time and bunches of probiotics to get back into balance.  I lost 15 lbs. in January.

Thankfully February has been better for us! I hope March will be better for you and your sense of smell comes back.

Dear Barbara, this sure has been an incredibly difficult season for you and your family. I am so sorry for all you've been during during this long winter. I hope that you're finding each day to bring new healing mercies and more energy. And if you're like me, you probably found that continuing to write through it all was the best medicine ever.

Be well, friend. And thanks for sharing a bit of your story with us.

Oh, Linda I am so sorry you are dealing with COVID. I had it for the second, maybe third time back in October, despite all the vaccines, etc. (I do work in healthcare), this last time was horrible as I not only lost my sense of smell, but it attacked my nervous system and I am still recovering from that!

But I had to laugh when I read your comments about the impact of not being able to smell! It was absolutely torture, because not being able to smell also affects your taste. It was weeks before I could enjoy my beloved morning coffee!!!

Sending warm comfort and heartfelt get well wishes to you my sweet friend!!

Can I say thank you for all your work in caring for others during those immensely challenging years? Those of us who are not providers most likely don't have a clue of what you've experienced, what you offered, and the lingering effects of your service. Thank you, thank you, friend.

I met a woman the other day that has had no sense of taste or smell since she was a toddler. Imagine that! I sure hope you are feeling better, and I am glad that singing hymns helped you through the roughest spots. When in pain, I'll recite the Lord's prayer over and over (I'm a terrible singer). :)

John 14:27 is another huge consolation to put on repeat -

'Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.'

Linda, I am so sorry you came down with covid. It came for a visit at our home as well mid December - first with my mom, then dad, then me, then my husband - each of us 2 1/2 days behind the other. None of us had quite the same experience. My dad had it the hardest. This was a 1st time for us too. I'm grateful for the Lord's faithfulness in bringing us through. May the Lord bring quick and complete healing. {{hugs}}

Oh my goodness, what an avalanche. It's like you couldn't get away from it. As soon as you caught your breath (literally) the next one rolled on in. I hope you're all feeling like yourselves again. Especially your parents. That's a hard one, isn't it ...

Ugh!!! So sorry, Linda. Praying it vacates as quickly as it came and leaves no remnants in its wake!

In the meantime…enjoy a break from your daily routines…and allow Tim to wait on you while you rest! ❤️

How wise to focus on another sense --hearing yourself sing--even as one of your senses is absent--temporarily, I hope. Be gentle with yourself.

Your experience of singing hymns to soothe your body, mind, and soul reminded me of when I underwent a CT-scan years ago due to severe back pain. Wasn't sure how I was going to lie flat in that enclosed tube for however long it took. At the time our choir was preparing to present the "God with Us" musical. I "sang" in my head song after song through the entire procedure and experienced the same sweet time with God that you did. Praise Him for the gift of music!

I know, right? I've done this with prayer at the dentist quite often and it has helped immensely.

Oh Linda ... so many thoughts and feels after reading this post. I'm sorry you're sick and hope your sense of smell doesn't stay away long. It's weird how this thing affects each of us so differently. I'm thankful for your ability to write through it ... as you may recall, that was NOT my experience (groan). Praying for you, friend ...

Yeah, I HAD TO write even though I had no idea what it would look like. It helped me pull the whole thing together in my head. And all these well wishes, shared experiences, and prayer have been such good medicine.

Ughhhhhhh, me too! I lost my sense of smell the 1st time I had Covid. It is slowly coming back. My kids like to make a game of it to see what mom can now smell and still can't!! The upside is I can't seem to smell bad smells but some of my favorite smells I can't smell either. It is slowly getting better. I hope you have a speedy recovery and get that smeller working soon!!

I'm sorry you're dealing with COVID ... And I hope you're on the mend ... I loved how you penned your thoughts... I could relate to the extreme anxiety for a different reason... I had fallen in love with a man that ultimately we realized we've grown in different ways ... The break-up has been lingering for a long while ... However, I know it's the right pathway... The anxiety has been overwhelming yet I found encouragement through your words ... To rely on

God for my support... Thank you Linda

It's always good when we see God's leading us to the right pathway even if it is a rocky one to follow. Lingering too long to go in His direction can wreck havoc on our bodies and souls. Go ahead and do the right thing. He'll never fail you, friend.
