Oh boy, I have no idea what book I'd pick for my desert island bookshelf. LOL! These are great recommendation's. You know hoe much I appreciate your recommendations. 😉
Thanks bunches for sharing these with Sweet Tea & Friend's May Link Up.
Great list of books, Linda! There are a few that I have read, but many I haven't! Or have forgotten that I read them, which happens. :) I think I would like to have Madeline L'engles "A Wrinkle In Time" series on my Desert List. No matter how often I re-read the series, I find something new.
I am pretty sure I found out about The Listening Life from you many years ago, Linda, and I ended up also reading Introverts in the church shortly after. Both very insightful, validating, and helpful since I am definitely an introvert. More recently, I read and enjoyed Introverted Mom by Jamie Martin, that I think pairs well with these two.
Let's hear it for us introverts sharing resources, Elena. I'll be checking out Introverted Mom even though I'm rather late to that party. I do wish these kind of resources had been available back in the day. I think I would have been a better mom ...
Some great suggestions here. I must admit I've never heard of these books but I am going to look for several (at the library) after I finish blog visits:) I hope you have the best time away this weekend. Soak in all the sweet family time! Blessings to you.....
Oh this is such a tough question to answer! I have so many favorite books and to narrow that list down would be so hard. But I do think I'd take a gamble and pack one or two new ones just for something unexpected to read.
Some old favorites that I could probably read again and again: Les Miserables by Victor Hugo and My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers. Some newer favorites: Run with the Horses by Eugene Peterson, Embraced by Lysa Terkeurst, and Prayer (Experiencing Awe and Intimacy with God) by Timothy Keller. As for this upcoming wedding: Are you sure you've calculated your age correctly?! Either that or you and your offspring must have had your children when you were very young!!😁
Actually your choice of books is kind of brilliant. But even if I did bring a boat building book or some kind of navigation tool, it'd all be Greek to me.
Linda, this is hard because different books have meant more to me at different times of my life. Now that I think about it, I might bring the Lord of the Rings trilogy because while I love the movies, I've never actually read the books, and I know they would give me lots of good reading there on that desert island. Also the Chronicles of Narnia and Mere Christianity. :-)
Sounds like you and Amanda would enjoy each other's company while stranded with The Lord of the Rings in your hands.
And a good point that we'd probably choose different books at different times of life. I can't even begin to imagine what I would have chosen 50 years ago! A fascinating exercise in realizing how much we've changed and morphed over time. I do believe that's a very good thing.
Oh these are really good! For fiction I think I would definitely pick The Lord of Rings. Non fiction would probably be In the Shelter by O Tuama. Atomic Habits is also on my tbr list!
Desert Island Picks. Nonfiction: The Gift of Years by Joan Chittister, Care of the Soul by Thomas Moore, The Circle of Life by Joyce Rupp and macron Wiederkehr, An Altar in the World by Barbara Brown Taylor, Seeking the Sacred by Stephanie Dowrick, and At Sea With God by Margaret Silf. Fiction: All of Jane Austen's books. Fun exercise--this makes me wonder if I should just empty my shelves and leave only these!
Love this, but need to really think about my books. Your list makes me interested in reading more.😊
You're so right, Jane, this kind of list takes a bit of thought!

When you get right down to it, this IS a dilemma!
I appreciate all your book recommendations, Linda!
Lisa, thanks ...

Oh that's a great idea! Never thought of it. Maybe something beachy?
* smile *
I so appreciate your book recommendations. I see a few I will be ordering for my vacation reads :) Thanks so much for sharing these with me!
Enjoy the bridal shower!
Oh cool! I'm glad you found some vacation-worthy reads, friend. Have a good trip ...

From Victor Hugo to Oswald Chambers. We learn so much when keeping company with a wide variety of writers ...
We have so many books in common! No surprise…
And I am far too young to have a friend with a married grandchild 🤣🤣🤣
And I am re-living my early grandmothering years vicariously through your stories ...
If on an island I was stranded,
the book to have, to get my vote
(I'm quite sure you understand it)
would be 'How To Build A Boat',
and then a tome on navigation
would be next, I do believe,
for from a stranded situation
I would really rather leave,
for although I like to rough it,
sleeping 'neath the Magi star,
I'd rather drink with Jimmy Buffett
in a tropic pirate bar,
so I'll set sail across the blue,
heart and course a-runnin' true.

I have a feeling we'll be talking about Atomic Habits in the days ahead ...

Oh my goodness, this is a feast, Nancy. Thanks for giving us a whole bunch of options to sift through. What hefty additions to our TBR piles. Superb.
So glad you're to have you here.
