the deep fulfillment that comes in immersing yourself in the stories of others + superb Kindle deals by Karen Swallow Prior . C.S. Lewis . Sarah Bessey . Timothy Keller . Jennie Allen . Annie F. Downs
Hey friend! Sarah's book gives keen insight into what many in the next generation are experiencing, and why, and how they are navigating their season of unsettled faith. We do well to pay attention, to have compassion, and to model love, not judgement.
'You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the LORD, and I will restore you ...'
I've missed reading your book reviews, Linda! I haven't been keeping up with my favorite blogs every since my second was born 1.5 years ago... not as much time available! I am glad to see The Listening Life. You introduced me to the book many years ago through your blog and I think I need to revisit it soon!
I wrote about cultivating a reading life in a recent blog post if interested!
Elena, it's so GOOD to see you again! I'm guessing it must be hard to balance raising little ones with reading and writing for your own soul's benefit.
Anyway, I love the beautiful illustrations you're using as you talk about books ... they make me want to stop and sit awhile. Let's keep in touch, ok?!
Linda, our almost 8 year old granddaughter loves to read. I have been reading the books that she has been reading so we could discuss them together. The Secret Garden, The Little Princess, Heidi, Anne Of Green Gables, Chronicles of Narnia, etc. For myself I just finished Pride and Prejudice, next up is Sense and Sensibility.
Thanks for the March Bookbag! It looks like a great supply of reading, Linda! I think I have mentioned that I am currently rereading many of the classics and enjoying them. Happy Weekend!
One of my favorite books the last few months has been Adorning the Dark: Thoughts on Community, Calling, and the Mystery of Making by Andrew Peterson. It both inspired me and brought me to tears in places. After I finished it, I immediately started reading it again. I wish I could soak up its wisdom and keep it in mind all the time.
I'm also enjoying Isaiah for You by Tim Chester, a book our ladies Bible study is going through. Usually when I read Isaiah, there are a few standout chapters, but it's easy to get a little lost in-between. Chester has a great way of explaining what's going on without getting the reader bogged down.
A book on community, calling, and the mystery of making sounds so intriguing, Barbara. I'm grabbing a free Kindle sample and encourage others to do the same.
Lots of good things to read! I enjoyed the short video by Pip Williams as she talked about her new Book, "The Bookbinder" and also "The Dictionary of Words". They will be put on my list of things to read!
Interesting thing about reading, under my present circumstance, is that it's now comparative, and perhaps competitive. I make no apologies for what's below. It's a truth, however unpalatable.
This is a veritable treasure trove of reading adventures! Thanks so much, Linda. And by the way, I did read your last Porch from my inbox, but it never showed up on my substack feed, so I couldn't comment. What's up with that, I wonder?
Linda, these are great reviews and recommendations! I'm jotting some of these down.
Thanks so much for sharing these with Sweet Tea & Friends this month sweet friend.
Sending Happy and Blessed Easter wishes to you and your family.
Glad you found some potential reads!
You've curated a fabulous list, Linda. Tozer has been on my "too read" list but I haven't know where to begin. Thanks!
He runs deep and sometimes that's exactly what we've been craving. Enjoy!
Thank you for dedicating time to share these great recommendations!
Hugs and blessings, Linda
I love it!

I can just picture the two of you having a little tea party, discussing her latest reading in The Sunshine Cottage!

I'd like to do that some day. How did you decide what you'd read, Pam?
My copy of How to Walk into a Room came today!!! 🎉 Excited to delve into that as well as the other book recs you have here.
Mine is finally coming tomorrow. It's going to be a good weekend to curl up with a long-awaited 'friend.'

Thank you so much!

I think you'll really like both. I read Dictionary a couple years ago. The author will draw you right in to the country of our ancestors!
Interesting thing about reading, under my present circumstance, is that it's now comparative, and perhaps competitive. I make no apologies for what's below. It's a truth, however unpalatable.
Reading may be empathy;
I'll warrant that it's true,
but what it really means to me
is that I outclass you.
Maybe, yeah, you have survived
what no-one mighta thunk,
but as for me, mate, I have thrived
to go out and get drunk.
Perhaps I now have caused offense,
a proud and haughty soul,
but in this, my present tense,
arrogance makes me whole
to give another day to linger
with an upraised middle finger.
Oops ... no upraised middle fingers around here. We have many lovely ladies present.
It was intended for cancer (especially today), but I'll just stick out my tongue and say nyah nyah nyah instead.
An excellent solution! Thank you.

I hope it was a one time glitch, friend. You know how technologically illiterate I am!
As always, I'm taking notes here, adding to the list.
Oh I'm glad you're finding something today!
Thanks for taking time to share the goodness!
Love doing this.
