Some more great suggestions! I love your book bag:) And I love that you have an audiobook voice. My kids used to tell me I had a telephone voice. So silly (um, but probably true)! Hope you are having a great week. Trying to get caught up with my blog reading...and glad I stopped by for a book bag chat today!

A telephone voice. Yep, I remember those days ... I can still hear my mom's cultivated 'hello' as she picked up the phone. A good memory.

Thanks for these suggestions, Linda! I'm always curious about what you're reading. Your son-in-law’s lovely remark about your audiobook voice made me smile!

Hugs and blessings!

Linda, I love that your son-in-law says you have an audiobook voice. I've not read anything by Susan Meissner but I'm definitely intrigued ...

Hi Linda! I love how your son 'n law calls you "mom." :) I have not heard of Susan Meissner before. These reads sound perfect for our book club. The ladies love historical fiction. I'm picking one of her books for our next read in the fall. Thanks for putting all these together.

Thanks for reminding me of the Susan Meissner books. AND I am delighted to learn about the reading light.

I recently finished Lucky by Jane Smiley, and now I want to re-read some of her earlier books. One book leads to another and another and another.

I love how you put this, Nancy - 'One book leads to another and another and another.'

So very true! That's why I don't plan out my reading life. I'm never quite sure what'll come next. There's usually no rhyme or reason and I like it that way.

I admire your dedication to reading and am so glad you're here for this discussion, my new friend.

Thank you so much for the recommendations! I love a good historical fiction book, but I've been disappointed in some of the books I've tried lately. I've never ready any Meissner, but I'm pretty sure I have some of her books on my Kindle. I will definitely check her out. Also, thanks for the book light recommendation. I've been eyeing that one for a while.

Hey Courtney, I'm glad you're here. That's so cool that you already have a couple of these on your Kindle! I'd love to hear what you end up reading and what you think ... let's keep in touch, ok?

* And yes, another thumbs up on the book light. It's amazing.

Thanks for these recommendations, Linda! I always am interested in what you're reading. I'm currently reading Kristin Hannah's new novel, The Women, centered on women who served as nurses in Vietnam. It's captivating (and also terribly sad).

I just started The Women an hour ago. Really. You can't make this stuff up. As always, I can't wait to read your review.

READERS - Oh my goodness. I'll never forget this book. I think this might end up being my favorite historical novel this year. There are no words to describe the intensity and hidden pain and desperation of this storyline, which sadly, is true for more men and women than we'd ever care to imagine. I'll give this 5 stars ... and also an R rating.

Lisa (and anyone else), what did you think?

I finished it last night! I thought it was fantastic too--5 stars from me as well!!! We don't hear this perspective often enough. And it made me want to rewatch a few episodes of MASH for that female nurse perspective. :)

I own THREE of Susan's books and have not read one by her yet (insert face palm!). One of the ones I own is The Nature of Fragile Things, I picked it up 2 years ago at a free little library (just realizing how long it has been on my shelf, sigh).

I used to think the past was boss,

and history was groovy,

and yesterday and now could cross,

just like in a movie,

but that was all so way back when,

before my heart was altered

by the things that might have been,

by a life that faltered,

and on this day I have no time

nor care about the days gone by.

Those are poems that just don't rhyme,

and I must bid them all goodbye

to focus on this time and place,

the present as my saving grace.

Several of Meissner's books are on my TBR list, since historical fiction is my favorite genre. I'll have to check out these titles for sure the next time I'm at the library. Thank you for the recommendation, Linda!

I have Susan Meissner on my radar now. Thanks for the tip.

I have been reading on my Kindle a lot lately but it is definitely not my preference.

I’m scheming an in person book club this summer with actual books and actual humans in my actual house. I hope someone shows up!!

I'm more inclined to read than to listen, but you do have a soothing voice, Linda. ❤️ I haven't read Susan Meissner's books for some time, but I do think I read The Nature of Fragile Things and remember it was good. :) Thank you for the suggestions. Love and blessings to you!

I'm with you, Trudy, more inclined to read. I save the listening for when I'm in the kitchen doing what needs to be done. It makes cooking and clean up time go faster.

Thanks for being here, friend! I hope you have a lovely weekend.
