Oh my goodness, I had to chuckle because I can just hear you saying Buckle up, buttercup. Lol. Thank you bunches and bunches for the shout out. I just love you my friend.
Thanks bunches for sharing your porch with Sweet Tea & Friends this month. β€οΈπ€
Wow - those pumpkins are amazing!! So much variety in one type of fruit . . . or is it a vegetable? I can never remember! I love The Bible Project too - it's one of my most used Bible study resources. I recently started listening to the Lazy Genius podcasts, possibly after you recommended it, and I'm enjoying the tidbits of practical wisdom. Visiting from ST&F today.
Kym, yep, Monday nights usually find me in the kitchen longer than normal, listening to the Lazy Genius podcast of the week ... and doing some extra cooking or cleaning or organizing. Sometimes all we need are those practical tidbits to give us some aha moments. Love that.
Pivot!!!! Oh my goodness what a perfect word!! Ever since our move to Florida in April Iβve been trying to embrace the word flexible. This is a tough word to embrace when one tends to plan out every minute and gets thrown by the tiniest deviation. But I can get behind the word pivot. From now on Iβll just pivot and yell βplot twistβ !!!
Valerie, hi! I'm so happy to see you again! You're so right, pivot IS 'a tough word to embrace when one tends to plan out every minute and gets thrown by the tiniest deviation.' But I'm finding it works well and can be a lifeline in keeping our health, sanity, and priorities where we want them to be.
Petra, hello! It's so wonderful to see you here! What a lovely surprise! I hope you are doing well and that you'll jump right into our discussions. Would sure love your perspective on life.
Marilyn's suggestion of Matlock is a great one and Janet mentioned the British shows on PBS. All Creatures Great & Small returns there in January. I loved the first 4 seasons which I got on DVD from the library. Beautifully done, calming, delightful storylines!
Pivoting. I like that word. That sounds so much more bearable than changing plans. Thatβs exactly where weβve been since my brother came to live with us.
I donβt often listen to the Bible project but love it. I would also recommend the podcast Voxology. They are currently doing a deep dive into genesis and creation and what it means to be human. So far 26 episodes and we are just now in Genesis 4. Great stuff and they are good buddies either way the guys at bible project.
We love British murder mysteries. PBS is filled with them or Acorn tv. Vera is a favorite along with midsummer murders and most recently unforgotten and my life is murders. Some are lighter than others. You can access all the back series by giving $5 a month to your local pbs station and become a member of Passport. Acorn is a separate monthly subscription. We stream all our tv now.
Janet, you're so right ... pivoting sounds more inviting and grace-filled than changing plans which has a harsher, straight forward approach. It's amazing how choosing a different word can offer us a huge mind-shift. And yes, when someone moves into our home, things are shifted and altered, literally as well as in all the ways that matter most.
I hope when all is said and done, you'll see God's loving hands at work in your situation. He is able. Praying for you even as we speak.
Yes, yes, He meets us in those hard places in ways that sometimes surprise us. He's always inviting us to something deeper, stronger, more substantial in our relationship with Him.
So much to love and make me smile in your photos, Linda: the bittersweet berries (?) resting in frosted aqua glass, the jolly-bright pumpkins, and the soft-colored quilt all caught my eye. Cause for gratitude and enjoyment here: eighteen days out of November include fellowship with family and/or friends. That means plenty of interesting conversation ahead and the potential for much laughter! Also enjoying the anticipation of decorating for Christmas--won't be long!
Bittersweet is an invasive species around here but boy do I get excited when I find a patch that's clippable. It makes me happy that you love it (in the frosted glass, of course!), too.
Enjoy all that family time. And thanks for that nudge to anticipate Christmas decorating instead of dragging our feet or moaning and groaning about it all. I'm keeping things simple again this year.
Our town swap shop just reopened this past summer, which was great both for being able to find new homes for treasures we no longer needed, as well as finding some more of my favorite swap shop scores ... flower vases I can use for bouquets when gifting them to people.
I really want to read The Plan, and may end up buying it. I've been dragging my feet because I'm hoping CLAMS will purchase it. Love the idea of "pivoting over planning," which seems to be the story of my life these days. So much better to embrace and expand upon that concept than to get frustrated over best laid plans that fizzle.
Lastly, I'm terrible at Sudoku, but I recently rediscovered crossword puzzles in a big way. I had been doing minis in the NYT daily puzzles app, but now I have a full size crossword puzzle app that I'm thoroughly enjoying ... just have to choose my timing carefully or it will get in the way of other things that need to be done!
'So much better to embrace and expand upon that concept than to get frustrated over best laid plans that fizzle.' Absolutely, Lauren. Disappointments and frustrations still happen but they don't have to call the shots and run the show. It turns out that most things in life are negotiable. I wish I had known that decades ago.
And yes I hear you about having fun with an app. It can easily eat the hours away. I think I just might do a bit of coloring tonight!
Oh, that quilt is such an amazing find, Linda! I truly believe it was calling your name in that shop because it knew you would give it lots of love and care. I have a quilt that was in my mom's house and I treasure it. This entire year has been nothing but pivots for us. As one who loves routines, that hasn't been fun, but I know God has sustained me through it all. May your holidays be blessed!
'Nothing but pivots.' So well said, Martha. I'm guessing a whole lot of people will be nodding there heads in agreement with you. Praise God He never changes, never needs to pivot, and is never at all surprised at what's coming around the next corner.
Oh my goodness, I had to chuckle because I can just hear you saying Buckle up, buttercup. Lol. Thank you bunches and bunches for the shout out. I just love you my friend.

Those pumpkins are amazing! And those Bible videos look so interesting. I will have to check them out.
Such a good resource - especially for those books that are challenging to understand ...

The walls are getting higher
within this cage of clocks,
trapped here with the fire,
and all the doors have locks.
There once, I think, were sunny days
and endlessly blue skies,
but now my heart resounds the phrase
that everybody dies,
and as I watch the fevers climb
('twas one-oh-four today)
I really think another rhyme
might quite not be the way
to cope with an unvarnished hell,
but it's what I do, so might as well.
Oh my friend, I'm praying that God would have mercy on you today ...
Linda, thank you. This is hard now.
I can't even imagine. But He can, He suffered, too, and suffers with you. He understands.
Every time, I hear "pivot", I think of the Friends episode with the couch. Lol.
Margie, I had to head over to You Tube to check it out. Yep, they were trying to pivot alright!

How's Florida?
Florida is amazingβ¦β¦.if you like heatβ¦β¦.which we adore!! Itβs a whole different vibe here and we love that southern hospitality π§‘πΊπΈ
It sounds like it's become home sweet home for you, Val. I know you'll add to that Southern hospitality ...
Hi Linda! Happy to have discovered your blogging π and words of wisdom - greetings from Germany! Rememberingβ¦ long time ago β¦ love, Petra

Hi Linda, yes, I am doing well - thankfully. Hope you are as well !
I'd love to hear of a good tv program too. I often listen to audio books and play online games as I do. :-)

I am working on a post about how God has guided us in all this change. He has been so faithful even when Iβm so distraught.
Yes, yes, He meets us in those hard places in ways that sometimes surprise us. He's always inviting us to something deeper, stronger, more substantial in our relationship with Him.
Iβm a longtime Bible Project nerdπ€ the work they do is fantastic!
And that quilt!π€© What a beautiful rescue operation.
A 'rescue operation.' That's cute, Cathy!
Just purchased the sudoku for my daughter for Christmas. Thanks. β€οΈ
Oh fun! Maybe you'll get hooked, too?!
Linda, Linda, Linda, my mind is not made for numbers π

Yes, we too have simplified, including less "set-around" stuff and a smaller tree. It really doesn't take a whole lot to make the house look festive.
Congrats to Paula! That quilt was a fabulous find.
I know, right? I couldn't believe my eyes.
