My favorite historical fiction love story ever ... & a superb real life bio follow up. Plus outrageous Kindle deals by authors I love. And the 30 year literary time capsule returns.
Rich dialogue and a good depth of character development. People I can't help rooting for ... and a few twists and turns that keep me hooked. Yes, please!
I love that you know what you read 30 years ago. You have me wanting to read Becoming Mrs. Lewis with your review. I struggle with 20th century literature--and especially 21st century literature. I am a huge Elizabeth Gouge fan. There's little literature that is art today. Instead of man working his way to a life redeemed, the writer usually relies a discontented ending, man is not elevated but still wallowing in a mirey pit. Keep warm--and keep recommending!
Maryleigh, I never heard of Elizabeth Gouge ... I'm off to go check her out.
Meanwhile, I'm agreeing with you ... people wallowing in a mirey pit at the end of a story is such a disappointment. I'm no Pollyanna, but I guess I'm always yearning for some kind of positive resolution or redeeming value.
I admire your reading habits and how you keep track of what you read each month. You give us so many wonderful recommendations! I appreciate all you do for us here. May God continually bless and guide you, my friend!
I too love historical fiction; Callahan's book about Joy Lewis is already on my TBR list! I also see you read one of Jan Karon's Mitford books five years ago. I enjoyed the whole series that year, isolated as we were during Covid. (Yes, I read them in the '90s as they were published, but they're too good to read just once.) Now I've decided to read them again. It's been long enough
I've forgotten many of the fun details. And the coziness of Mitford as well as the delightful characters make the books a restful read. That greatly appeals to me right now.
Oh, I love Jan Karon's Mitford series, Nancy. It truly has been comfort food for the soul repeatedly. I think I've read through the entire series twice - and yes, it was such good company during covid. Let's hear it for Father Tim and all of his quirky, beloved community in this gentle yet fun series!
So many good titles. I loved Becoming Mrs. Lewis but I have not delved deeper into the authors writing, so thank you for these resources! Happy Valentine’s Day, Linda!
Ah, I really enjoyed reading Becoming Mrs. Lewis and learned a thing or two in the process. (Love that you mentioned Introverts in the Church. Reading that was the start of something for me.)
Introverts in the Church was a huge game changer for me, too, Linda. I could finally be me, without apology or excuses. A real breath of fresh air, right? Happy Valentine's Day!
I loved Callahan's book, too! I may just have to get the other one about Joy that you mentioned here, Linda. Danny loves having a suggestion list for my birthday and this fits the bill. Happy Valentine's Day!
Oh boy I love the book bag! I will definitely be checking some of these out.
Thanks bunches for sharing with Sweet Tea & Friends this month sweet friend.
❤️🤗🌹
I hope you find some goodies to indulge in. The winter is long and we've got plenty of time to read!
Love a good book recommendation, Linda! Adding Becoming Mrs. Lewis to my expanding TBR list!
Oh good, Brooke! Let me know what you think, ok?
I love a good historical fiction love story, especially one with rich dialogue and depth.
I haven’t read Becoming Mrs. Lewis yet, but I’ve heard so many wonderful things about it.
Love and blessings, Linda!

It's fun to keep track of what we're reading! Some things never change even as other interests morph and deepen.
Kinda like life, right?
More great gems! Thanks for sharing your favorites with us, Linda!
The only that's almost as good as reading a book is talking about it with friends!
Happy Valentine's Day! I watched a couple of romantic movies yesterday, but I didn't read any romantic books.
This frigid weather is perfect cuddling up and movie watching season, isn't it. I hope your day was lovely, Amy ...

I hope you're having a Happy Valentine's time, Laura!
you know coming to your blog is like sitting down with a friend and having a good chat over a great cup of coffee. Thanks for being that friend!
And Happy Valentine's Day to you, Jean. So grateful we get to do life together even from afar ...

One of my book club reads was Becoming Mrs. Lewis. I didn't know there were videos though! I'll have to let the book club gals know!
They are like lovely picture frames around the book! Happy Valentine's Day, Lynn.
Linda 🥰. Also, I’m reading Paradise Lost with KSP over on her Newsletter. It’s so beautiful.
The woman is simply amazing. You are, too. Happy Valentines Day!
Linda, I read Becoming Mrs. Lewis and loved it. I have read quite a few on your list. Jane Austen is a favorite!
Happy Valentine’s Day ❤️
I need to start revisiting the old classics, one author at a time. If I had a bucket list, that bookish goal would be on it, right near the top.
I loved Callahan's book, too! I may just have to get the other one about Joy that you mentioned here, Linda. Danny loves having a suggestion list for my birthday and this fits the bill. Happy Valentine's Day!
A book is the perfect Happy Birthday gift, isn't it? I hope you'll find Joy all wrapped up nice and pretty and ready to go.
“Becoming Mrs. Lewis” has been on my TBR for far too long—moving it towards the top after your endorsement, Linda! 😊
Oh good, Cathy! I can't wait to hear what you think. Keep me posted, ok?
