Porch #180 🍨 What's Saving Your Springtime Life?
8 snapshots of the most winsome Cape Cod days
PORCH
a soft place to land
a calm weekend haven
a gentle pause from life's busyness
so we may experience
the tender lovingkindness of Jesus
as we do life together
in community
Early one morning, I found this little daffodil knocked right off her feet, laying on the ground all crushed and withered. I gently sprayed her with cool water, rinsing off the grime, cut her stem short, and placed her in this little green bottle. A few hours later she was good to go.
Isn’t it amazing what a little loving care can do.
Seagulls are always looking for a quick handout. They’re not at all leery when it comes to hopping right onto the hood of the car or scurrying over if you’re sitting on the beach with any kind of food or drink in hand. They are scavengers.
But they’re cute scavengers. They run the show. And they know it.
After a long winter with not too much action, my little library is starting to attract dog walkers, moms with kiddos, and bicycling visitors. I’m always on the hunt for like-new books and magazines to share.
If you’re in the neighborhood, please drop by, ok?
I’ve pretty much moved out to the porch. I’m eating breakfast, lunch, and supper there. Curling up for quiet devotional times. Writing, of course. Keeping an eye open for birds at the feeder. And looking for reasons to indulge in an afternoon nap.
If you need me, this is where I’ll be.
I love my Tevas. After 7 years of daily summertime use, I finally splurged on a new pair. My feet are appreciative. You can buy a matching pair here (amazon affiliate) and I promise you won’t want to take them off.
And we can be twins.
It takes a long while for life to come into full bloom here on the Cape. The oaks take their sweet time in birthing their new leaves and the scrub pines are, well, scrubby looking.
We rejoice in every bit of color that comes on the scene in its own time.
The Ice Cream Cafe is open and we couldn’t be happier. I’ve already indulged in a small dish of peanut butter crunch and another of cheesecake, yes cheesecake. Next visit? A chocolate blizzard with extra Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
I’m going to select something different each time this year.
And then there’s the evening. Some nights there are no words as we watch His creation slowly but surely head off to sleep. If there’s a crowd on the beach, just about everyone bursts into applause before they head back to their cars.
‘From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.’
- Psalm 113:3

I think it was five years ago my daughter and her family brought me a pot of geraniums with a spiky thing in the center for Mothers' Day. The geraniums bloomed until pumpkin time, when I carefully removed the spiky thing, put it in its own pot and let the geraniums dry out in the spare room. Spiky Thing flourished in the sunny living room. while the geraniums slept the winter away in the peace and quiet of a north facing rarely used room. Come March and I woke up the geraniums, pulled out the dead leaves and deluged the pot with a long spring drink. Within a few days new leaves sprouted and by Memorial Day, the pot was centerstage on the front porch. Spiky Thing continued to grow like the weed I had decided it was. At the end of summer Spiky Thing was too tall to come inside, so it was donated to a space with higher ceilings. But the pot of geraniums has been beautiful every summer since, much to the dismay of my daughter, who can't believe I have kept these familiar friends alive so long. Geraniums are very humdrum, don't always smell very good, and tend to break easily when bumped or battered by a stiff wind. More or less like the people who live in this house. But they are stalwart, dependable, steadfast, cheerful and faithful as they re-cycle themselves for years with minimal care. More or less like the people who live in this house! A little Living Water, some Food for Thought, and I, like my geraniums, seem set to go on at least a few more springs! Hallelujah!
Linda this is just so uplifting hearing what your up to. I was just thinking about your little library the other day and I was happy to see you share it here. I'd be on the porch all summer too I don't have one. But I so love being porch people with my friend on her porch.
Thanks bunches for sharing with Sweet Tea & Friends this month dear friend. ❤️🤗☕
