It's good to be out and about. I'm out of my most recent trigeminal neuralgia flare, "for now". It feels so awesome to be visiting with you guys and taking some time to do some things that bring me joy.
I'm not one for lists. I always remember everything and tend to tackle the most urgent needs first. Right now I'm all about harvesting and canning from the garden, then I'll put the gardens to bed for the winter and decorate for fall.
Wow. I used to remember everything and multi-task with the best of them! Those were the days. You're blessed, Amy. You go, girl with the harvesting and canning. What a wonderful gift to line your pantry with the healthiest of goodies. Fabulous.
Emily's list looks helpful, Linda! I need to finish cleaning up my garden area (hopefully this weekend!). And I desperately need to sort through my clothes (no timeline on this one - yet).
Oh I love going through my clothes! There's something very freeing about the whole process, from taking everything out of drawers and closets, to deciding what I don't love and what doesn't fit, keeping only what I know I'll reach for, releasing the good stuff out into the world, and then tossing the rest.
I love Emily P. I hate lists! haha. I have read all of Emilys books and her Next Right Thing Journal was very helpful for me. I recently read her How to Walk into a room. I actually havenβt listened to her podcast in a while but reading this, I popped over and listened. I just printed out the list and I love your doodles too! I will sit with it and see where it goes. My problem with lists, I think, is that for me they seem to be too confining. I donβt know why, but when I think of making lists it just overwhelms me. There are times I try and write down things I need to remember to do or would like to accomplish. I have friends and my husband who are lists fanatics. lol. My lists seem to be random if I make them, I have friends who get stressed if they donβt finish their list. I just look at my unfinished items and say. βOh well, I will eventually get to that.β AND Thats why I think this type of list is perfect for me. Thanks for sharing.
By the wayβ¦, Iβm new here to substack and trying to find my way. I have a desire to put some writing out there but really have no experience, so I am grateful to connect and learn from others here on this new to me platform.
Janet, welcome!! I'm so glad you found your way here. You're in good company as a number of us in this little community have made Substack our home sweet home in the last year or so. I couldn't be happier, for so many reasons.
I hear what you're saying how lists can be confining, and for sure, Emily's list is free-er and lighter and less cumbersome than what some of us have been used to. We're free to make it what we want it to be. It's been a good motivator and head-clearer for me. As I glance over at it on the desk here, I see that maybe half of what I jotted down now has lines crossing them out. A great feeling that maybe yes, I did accomplish something this week!
Looking forward to getting to know you more in the season ahead. Bless you.
I love the idea of using a list to get organized for fall! Emily P. Freemanβs template sounds like a great tool for managing home, wellness, and work tasks. Thanks for sharing, Linda!
No, I can't believe I even mentioned the holidays since I'm still determined to hold on to these last days of summer with all my might. What was I thinking?!
Emilyβs list is simple, and I need simple at this particular time. I am working on organizing and purging! Thank you, Linda for posting wonderful content! Happy New Week!
I too love Emilyβs list - it is simple and seems to me doable because it gives the freedom to paint broad strokes over time rather than daily to-dos - which I always seem to fail at.
These days I'm finding that simpler is better, do-able, and far more likely to succeed. I love the way you said it, Sue, that 'freedom to paint broad strokes over time.' Now THAT'S a compelling scenario.
What struck me about Emily's list about the season what I often read you should prioritize three things to get done each day and focus on them. what she has done is taken a full season and had us name three categories to focus on for that season. I found that so useful and made it so much easier. to do and realistic too.
Oh I completely missed that, Jean. So true! Three is a good number, for sure. And on a good day if we've checked off those three, we can always add three more. Sometimes I get in the groove and want to keep on going!
Yep, people either love lists or they hate them. I don't know that anyone is in between on this, Andrew. I'm guessing you're in very good company. But what else is new, ya' know?
I need to write lists, too, so I don't go squirrelling too much! I always get off task a little bit, and I have learned to accept that I do. :) I like the simplicity of Emily's list, and that you wrote your list with an orange pen, emphasizing the autumn season full "gifts" that you get to do.
Squirrelling. That's the PERFECT description of where I go when I don't have a bit of a framework around my days. You're right, friend. Let's keep it all very simple. It doesn't take much to keep us focused. (I'm still finding that leaving my phone somewhere not within easy reach is the secret sauce.)
I'm heading to Costa Rica in 2 weeks for a MAJOR international church conference (did I say MAJOR?). So right now it is hard for me to see beyond that. I will get back at the end of September. Seeing family at Thanksgiving and Christmas and reading books are all I have in mind as I regroup and pull myself together after almost a year of doing my small part of this Conference. Whew!
You go, girl! May all those months of prayer, preparation, and labor produce a huge bounty of fruit for Jesus. Enjoy every minute of worship and learning and connection. You have much to look forward to in Costa Rica ... as well as when you return home to those you love ... and those books that await your attention.
Gotta have my lists. Lol. I would be so discombobulated without them.
Thanks bunches for sharing with Sweet Tea & Friends September Link up sweet friend.
xo
Hey girl, it's so good to see you out and about! How are you feeling this week?

I love the cup!
And I love that you're here, Annette. A great big welcome to you!

You've motivated me, Lisa. Thank you!

And the best part is crossing off each project as it's done! Yay.
Re-establishing: I love that. Thanks for sharing this.
Have a happy day, Natalie!
Thanks for sharing the list! My place is already decked out for the fall.
I love how you have a free swap store! What a great way to rehome items.
I'm such a fan. It's located near the entrance to the town 'transfer station' (dump) and is like a free flea market 3 days a week. Too much fun!
Hi Linda,
What a great list! I'm going to hop over for a listen. :) Can you believe it's time to start thinking about Christmas?
I've never seen a nuthatch. The name is adorable!
Blessings,
Tammy

Pam, would you share about your organizing and purging projects? I know it'd be quite inspiring, friend ...
A good list is always a good idea -- and I like your format!
Jeanie, thanks, and I hope you had a really lovely weekend.

I really, really don't do lists,
and thereby hangs a tale.
They tend to make me really pissed
when I inevitably fail
to accomplish what they say
that is so gol-durn vital,
and that can give a gentle day
'Failure' as a title.
Better far the hours come
and go, and I do what I can
to stay aligned with what I know
is some kind of plan,
but never counting, when at last the day is done
any metrics for comparison.
